I Want a New Drug
I have now found the most useless waste of medical research in the entire world - Latisse, for growing thicker eyelashes. SRSLY?!?!?! People are dying of cancer, AIDS, and swine flu and some company has spent millions upon millions of dollars for a prescription drug on EYELASHES!!! What's worse, the FDA has spent our hard earned yankee tax dollars reviewing said drug and getting it approved.

*headdesk*

Let me start with - I agree. It is silly. However to take a slightly devil's advocate type position. Something like this could be of use to people with alopecia or re growth fafter chemo.

I was thinking that too. But the commericals are horribly shallow and vain, which really put me off.

Yep. I thought better of Brooke Shields than that.

Try to think of it this way...

There are many drugs that are cash-cows that make
money for orphan drugs.

An interesting side effect to Latisse is that it - get this!
- (possibly) changes your eye color - permanently!
The downside" is that it's brown - most people want
more exotic colors. But, imagine what's going to happen
when they can isolate the color-change mechanism...!

Yeah, the side-effects were a little creepy.

Big Pharma is interested in profit, not people. I mean, dude, there are false eyelashes.

In the FDA's defense, though, they are supposed to review and approve/disapprove all drugs, no matter how lame. Their job is to protect us from snake oil salesmen, basically.

I thought Latisse was discovered because the eyelash growth was a side-effect of a treatment for a disease. And after that, well, they have it and they will market it. Aren't most cosmetics commercials shallow and vain? Except for men's hair color, of course, which is all about success in business. (rolls eyes)
